"Wake Up, Girls!" Live Announces Advances in Idol Anime Technology
Yesterday’s live event celebrating the return of Wake Up, Girls! to the TV screens of Japan featured appearances from show idols Mayu, Minami, Kaya, and Miyu (their real names as well as the names of their characters). Also in attendance was show director Itagaki Shin. After a preview airing of the first episode of Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter, the five talked about working on the show and what to expect in the new series.
One change fans will notice in the new season is the use of 3DCG animation for the idols’ dance numbers. Going forward, the show will now use motion-capture technology to record the idols’ performances. As Minami Tanaka pointed out, this allows each of the girls’ styles and traits to show during the dance scenes.
Of the upcoming season, Itagaki also mentioned the group’s chemistry, noting that there were several places in the script left open for ad-lib amongst them.
The group also used the occasion to make two more major announcements. The first highlights a show coming on November 18. Titled Wake Up, Girls! Special Party ~I’m Sorry for Saying Sorry~ in Shanghai, the show will bring the girls’ stage events to Bandai Namco Shanghai Base.
Also announced was a line of seven licensed perfumes, each tailored to one of the girls of the idol unit. Preorders will be open from September 29 to October 25.
