High school romance takes a turn for the complicated in Rainbow Days, an upcoming live-action film based on the shōjo manga by Minami Mizuno about a young man whose romantic overtures are frequently stifled by the meddling of his best friends.
The original Rainbow Days manga is serialized in Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret shōjo manga magazine. The Rainbow Days live-action film is directed by Ken Iizuka and stars Reo Sano, Taishi Nakagawa, Mahiro Takasugi, and Ryusei Yokohama. The film will hit theaters in Japan in the Summer of 2018.
Rainbow Days was also adapted into a 2016 TV anime with direction by Tetsurō Amino and Tomohiko Ohkubo and animation by Production Reed. The Rainbow Days TV anime is distributed in North America by Funimation, who describe the story as follows:
After getting dumped on Christmas day, high school boy and hopeless romantic Natsuki Hashiba crosses paths with Anna, an aloof girl in a Santa outfit passing out tissues. For him it’s love at first sight, for her… not so much.
