Funimation to Screen Attack on Titan Compilation Films in U.S. Theaters in March
FUNimation Entertainment announced on Friday that it has licensed the two Attack on Titan recap movies and plans to release them theatrically in the United States at the end of March. The first film, Attack on Titan Part 1 – Guren no Yumiya (Shingeki no Kyojin Zenpen ~Guren no Yumiya~) will screen on March 27 and Attack on Titan Part 2 – Jiyuu no Tsubasa (Shingeki no Kyojin Kōhen ~Jiyū no Tsubasa~) will screen on March 28 in some theaters and March 29 in others. Funimation posted a list of the 19 Reading and Alamo Drafthouse theaters that will screen the films. Screenings will be English-dubbed.
The first film, which covers episodes 1 through 13 of the television anime, opened in Japan in November 2014, and the second film, which covers 14 through 25, opened in June 2015. (The films are named after Linked Horizon‘s popular opening themes for the television anime.) The second film added new ending footage that links the film to the upcoming second season.
The anime’s second season will premiere on April 1 and Funimation will stream the series as it airs in Japan.
The first 25-episode season aired from April-September 2013. Both Funimation and Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired in Japan, and Funimation released the series on home video in 2014.
Hajime Isayama‘s original manga has also inspired numerous spinoff manga, several novel series, a two-part live-action film project, a spinoff live-action television series, and an OVA. Two of the spinoff manga — Attack on Titan: No Regrets and Attack on Titan: Junior High — received anime adaptations of their own.
