Campione! Light Novel Series Ends This Month, New Series Begins in December
Shueisha is listing that the 21st volume of J? Takezuki‘s Campione! – Matsuro Wanu Kamigami to Kami Koroshi no Ma? light novel series will be the final volume. The Amazon listing for the volume also lists that the light novel series has 1.4 million copies in print. The 21st volume is slated for November 22.
Takezuki will launch a new series titled Shiniki no Campiones (Campiones of the Sanctuary) on December 22, with a second volume in January. BUNBUN (Yuki Yuna Is a Hero, Izetta: The Last Witch, Sakura Quest) is illustrating the new series.
Sentai Filmworks licensed the novels’ television anime adaptation, and released it on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in 2013. The company describes the story:
Some people suddenly find religion, but for 16-year-old Kusanagi Godo, it’s that REALLY old time religion that’s found him! As the result of defeating the God of War in mortal combat, Godo’s stuck with the unwanted position of Campione!, or God Slayer, whose duty is to fight Herectical Gods whenever they try to muscle in on the local turf.
Not only is this likely to make Godo roadkill on the Highway to Heaven, it’s also a job that comes with a lot of other problems. Like how to deal with the fact that his “enhanced status” is attracting a bevy of overly worshippy female followers. After all, they’re just there to aid him in his demi-godly duties, right? So why is it that their leader, the demonically manipulative sword-mistress Erica Brandelli, seems to have such a devilish interest in encouraging some VERY unorthodox activities?
Takezuki launched the light novel series with illustrations by Sikorsky in 2008. The anime adaptation premiered in 2012, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The novels also inspired a manga adaptation by Tsugirō Sakamoto in Shueisha‘s Super Dash & Go! magazine from 2011 until the magazine ceased publication in April 2013.
