Anime Adaptation of Tsuyoshi Yoshioka’s Fantasy Light Novel "The Wise Grandson" in The Works
Kadokawa confirmed today on September 22 that an anime adaptation of Tsuyoshi Yoshioka’s fantasy light novel Kenja no Mago/The Wise Grandson is now in the works. The news was also confirmed in a 110-second new PV for the series, including a manga adaptation drawn by Shunsuke Ogata. How and when it will be distributed have not yet been revealed.
The novel was first posted in the “Shosetsuka ni Narou (Let’s Become a Novelist)” user-generated novel publishing website in January 2015, then its first volume was released from Kadokawa’s Famitsu Binko imprint in July of the same year. Its manga adaptation has been serialized in Kadokawa’s web manga site Young Ace UP since March 2016. The novel’s latest seventh volume is scheduled to be released on September 30, the manga’s next fifth volume will follow on October 26, then a spin-off novel “The Wise Grandson Extra Story: The Birth of Legendary Heroes” will be available on November 30.
The story centers on a young wizard Shin Wolford, who was reincarnated from the modern day Japan
with his memories of his previous life. He was picked up by Merlin Wolford, known to the world as a
great “wise man,” and was brought up by him as his own grandson. But since he was raised in a remote
place and Merlin forgot to teach him common sense, Shin is now able to use non-standardized magic
powers. As reaching the age of 15, Shin enters Earlshide Advanced Magic Academy to learn common
knowledge and to find friends.
