Pokémon Go Game Launches 80+ Generation 2 Pokémon This Week
Niantic announced on Wednesday that it will release more than 80 new Generation 2 Pokémon for its Pokémon Go smartphone game this week. Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, and other Pokémon from the Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver games will debut in the game. The official Pokémon Go YouTube channel began streaming a video to mark the announcement on Wednesday.
In addition to new Pokémon, gender-specific variations will also launch in the game. Some evolutions of Kanto-region Pokémon into new Pokémon will require Evolution items that will be available at PokéStops.
Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries will launch in the game. Nanab Berrie will slow Pokémon movements to make them easier to catch, while Pinap Berries will double the number of Candies players receive after a successful capture. Item carousels will let players select Berries and Poké Balls from the encounter screen.
New hats, shirts, pants, and other items will be available for avatars.
The game’s current Valentine’s Day event, which features an increased spawn rate for pink Pokémon, will end on Wednesday. However, Niantic announced that Lure Modules will continue to last for six hours until February 18.
Seven baby Pokémon from Generation 2 launched in eggs in the game in December.
The Pokémon Company president Tsunekazu Ishihara said last month that The Pokémon Company and Nintendo are looking into developing a device that will allow the Pokémon Go smartphone game to be played more safely. Since the game’s launch, the game has been tied to several accidents around the world, including car crashes. The game itself contains a reminder to players to be mindful of their surroundings while playing the game.
The mobile game launched in select countries including the United States and Japan in July, and has since launched in more than 100 countries and territories. The “Pokémon GO Plus” accessory, a wristband that allows players to capture nearby Pokémon without relying on their phones, shipped on September 16. The app launched for the Apple Watch in December.
