Live-Action Double Mints Film Reveals Teaser Video, Poster
The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Asumiko Nakamura‘s Double Mints boys-love manga began streaming the film’s teaser video on Friday.
The film’s staff also revealed a poster visual.
The film will open in Japan this summer.
The manga’s story revolves around two characters with similar names (although they spell their names using different kanji). Shunsuke Tanaka will play the cold and cruel Mitsuo Ichikawa (市川光央, left in picture below), while Yasushi Fuchikami will play the submissive Mitsuo Ichikawa (壱河光夫, right).
In addition, Kenta Suga (left in picture below) will play Tanaka’s character in scenes set during the character’s high school life, and Shunpei Kawagoishi (right) will likewise play Fuchikami’s character in high school. Other cast members include Ami Tomite, Kazuya Takahashi, and Shigemitsu Ogi.
Eiji Ueda is directing the film and penning the script.
The manga’s story begins when Mitsuo Ichikawa hears the domineering voice of someone on the phone saying, “I killed a woman.” The man was his classmate in high school who had the same name as he does. The voice brings back old, forgotten memories of the man, which revive old passions. Both Mitsuos reunite as accomplices, and their relationship, which had always been one between master and servant, begins to change into something new.
Nakamura published the manga’s five chapters in Akaneshinsha‘s Mellow Mellow magazine in 2009, along with two sequel short stories titled “Ame” (Rain) and “Onshitsu no Kajitsu” (The Fruit in the Greenhouse). Akaneshinsha published the manga’s one compiled book volume in July of the same year.
Nakamura’s Dōkyūsei manga inspired the Doukyusei -Classmates- anime film, which opened in Japan in February 2016. Aniplex of America opened the film in theaters in the United States last May, and released the film on home video in September.
