TBS revealed six main cast members for the television anime of Yuuri Eda‘s Kabukibu! light novel series on Wednesday. Kadokawa began streaming a video on Wednesday that introduces the main cast members and their characters.
The revealed cast members are:
- Taichi Ichikawa as Kurogo Kurusu
- Yuichiro Umehara as Tonbo Murase
- Ryota Ohsaka as Shin Akutsu
- Kengo Kawanishi as Jin Ebihara
- Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hanamichi Niwa
- Yuko Kaida as Kaoru Asagi
The anime’s staff will hold a stage event at AnimeJapan 2017 on March 26. Ichikawa, Ohsaka, Kawanishi, and Shimazaki will attend the event. Ichikawa and Umehara will also appear on a Niconico live streaming program on February 20. The tentatively titled Kabukibu! Seiyū-tachi ga Kabuki wo Mananjaimasu! Zenpen (Kabukibu! Voice Actors Learn Kabuki! Part 1) television special will air on CS-TBS Channel 2 on March 30.
The anime will premiere in April on the TBS and BS-TBS channels. Film distributor Shochiku listed the series with 12 episodes of 25 minutes each.
Kazuhiro Yoneda (Yona of the Dawn, Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara.) is directing the anime at Studio DEEN. Yoshiko Nakamura (Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, Hiiro no Kakera – The Tamayori Princess Saga) is in charge of the series scripts. The four-creator group CLAMP is drawing the original character designs, and Majiro (Barakamon, Macross Delta, Ongaku Shōjo) is adapting CLAMP‘s designs for animation.
The series revolves around Kurogo Kurusu, a high school student who loves kabuki so much that it’s annoying. Kurogo yearns to perform kabuki as part of a club at his school, but currently his school doesn’t have a kabuki club. So Kurogo sets out to create a kabuki club, and his first order of business is to gather members.
Chizu Kamikō launched a manga adaptation of the novels on February 3.
Kadokawa published the novels’ fifth volume in November. Eda previously wrote the original story for artist Yamimaru Enjin‘s one-volume I Can’t Even Breathe Without You manga, which Aurora Publishing, Inc. published in English in 2010.
